History was made Sunday as Spain won their first World Cup championship.
La Roja beat England 1-0 to capture the title, which came a year after 15 players resigned from the team.
Olga Carmona scored the lone goal in the match with a stunning strike that sent the ball across the pitch and into the corner of the net. It was her second goal of the tournament.
At the World Cup, not only is the top team celebrated, but the top players receive accolades as well. Every tournament awards a Golden Ball to the best player, a Golden Boot to the top-scorer and a Golden Glove to the best goalkeeper.

The midfielder had three goals (a brace in the Round of 16) and two assists in the tournament. Besides the stats, she was a centerpiece of La Roja's midfield that moved the ball fluidly around the pitch and her defense was lockdown.
She plays for FC Barcelona where she rose through the youth ranks to make her first team debut in 2016. She's won two Champions League trophies with the club.

Japan's Hinata Miyazawa won the World Cup Golden Boot with a tournament-high five goals. She scored all of those before Japan was eliminated in the quarterfinals. She had two braces during the group stage of the World Cup – one against Zambia and another against eventual champion Spain.

England's Mary Earps was awarded the World Cup Golden Glove for her expert defense en route to the Three Lionesses' first trip to the final. She allowed four goals in seven games, including three clean sheets.
In the final match, the Manchester United goalkeeper saved Jenni Hermoso's penalty kick, which kept her side in the game, even though England went on to lose 1-0.
